When to go Heliskiing
The best time to go…..depends.
British Columbia heli-skiing operates January to early April. A few operators offer some December days, especially the Christmas to New Years week.
Canadian Heliskiing can be great anytime from Christmas to April. January is colder, but snows more. March offers longer days, but can get warm.
Primetime is February, but January and March are usually very good. January can offer better deals, including unlimited vertical. Be aware that late season can include ‘corn snow’ on some slopes and later in the days.
But conditions can be great during any week. Many operators prefer January because it historically delivers copious amounts of new snow. Other prefer March, especially if your package is Unlimited Vertical. The longer days allow for long, long days, sore legs and a permanent sunburned smile on your face.
This season January bookings have been slow. Some great weeks still have availability and some deals can be found. Check out the Deals section of the Heliski Forum on Heliski.com.
Alaska has a much later season. Some operators open in February. Prime time is March and April. Some will accommodate early May. It may be corn snow, however. There is twice as much sunlight at the end of the season than at the beginning.
It depends, but it’s hard to go wrong if you heliski Canada between Christmas and April….enjoy!
